History:
The Society was founded in August 1960 on the initiative of Dr Paul Hoffmann, Lecturer, and from 1964 its first Professor of German at Victoria University. It is one of many societies all over the world bearing the name of Germany's greatest writer, which symbolises much of what is most admirable in the German tradition.
